Travis H Heinrich

When approaching this performance, I found myself quickly halted when contemplating exactly what my role was; is it a collaboration? Am I rendering the performance into something new? Furthermore, is there a hierarchy between the performers and myself present? I was unsure. The very notion of submerging the performers with projected light was, I found, a poignant metaphor for the projected opinions audiences place upon contemporary art, and, in turn, I found a hierarchy existed between myself and the audience–one where I was in control.
The resulting projection is a sporadic, selfish and inaccessible moving-image collage of my thoughts and reactions to the performance; it is a representation of my contemplations on the physical, temporal, societal, and personal connections to the work, and it aims to pompously fill the contemplative space that would normally occur if not for the projection.
